Trump Account errors: 'unable to process', CP318 and name/SSN mismatches

The most common cause: data that doesn't match SSA
The IRS says to make sure the names, SSNs and dates of birth you enter for yourself and your child match Social Security Administration records (IRS: Trump Accounts FAQ). The child's name and SSN must match their Social Security card (IRS: Instructions for Form 4547).
Fixing a mismatch
- Compare what you typed with the Social Security cards, character by character (hyphens, suffixes, middle names).
- If your legal name changed, update it with SSA first (see >SSA: change your name). The Form 4547 instructions say to report the change to SSA before filing (IRS: Instructions for Form 4547).
- Then resubmit.
Notice CP318
You may get Notice CP318 if you need to take action to complete or correct an election. Follow its instructions; if resubmitting Form 4547, check names, SSNs and dates of birth carefully. IRS phone representatives cannot correct your election or claim the account for you (IRS: Trump Accounts FAQ). Do not file Form 1040-X to fix Form 4547 (IRS: Trump Accounts FAQ).
